Nkanyiso Hlongwa

Nkanyiso Hlongwa is a partner in Bridgespan’s Johannesburg office. He serves philanthropy, nonprofit, and impact investing clients who seek to enhance their impact in Africa.
He supports Bridgespan’s clients through strategy development, organizational redesign, and seeks growth and impact opportunities across the continent. Additionally, Nkanyiso is coauthor of “Closing the Capital Gap on Impact Investment in Africa” (Bridgespan.org, August 2023).
Prior to joining Bridgespan, Nkanyiso worked for Monitor Deloitte as a corporate strategy and growth practitioner, with a particular focus on identifying new value creation opportunities. He was a member of the Innovation and Venturing portfolio, unlocking new growth areas. His work focused on scalable opportunities to create long-term value.
Nkanyiso brings broad sectoral knowledge (e.g., agriculture, energy, financial services, etc.) and has been driven by his passion to create lasting impact, support sustainable livelihoods and contribute to creating accessible development opportunities in Africa.
Nkanyiso holds an MBA from St. Mary’s University College, Twickenham and a Bachelor of Business Science (Honours in Economics) from the University of Cape Town. His career began as a macro economist for the Bureau for Economic Research in South Africa before transitioning to an operations analyst in New York. He returned to South Africa and established his consulting career, for which he has been recognized several times for his leadership and performance.
